Tool has made headlines recently after climber Alex Honnold revealed that he listened to a playlist featuring Maynard James Keenan while free soloing the Taipei 101 skyscraper in Taiwan. This incredible feat was streamed live during a Netflix special on Saturday.
Keenan shared his reaction to Honnold’s daring climb, saying, “Not everybody and their mother texted me every three seconds telling me about it or anything,” with a laugh. When he first learned about Honnold scaling one of the tallest buildings in the world without ropes, Keenan was in awe. “Jesus, what b,” he exclaimed. He added, “What the heck were you thinking, dude? It’s impressive! It’s extremely impressive, but I wouldn’t make it past the first floor. I would fall to my death.”
Keenan expressed his relief that Honnold was the one doing the climbing while he provided the soundtrack. He joked about his role if Honnold attempts another climb: “I’ll be the guy down below eating french fries making fun of him.”
In other news, Keenan is set to release a new album with Puscifer titled *Normal Isn’t* on February 6. Fans can look forward to more music from him soon!
