Maynard James Keenan, the 62-year-old singer for Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer, underwent a second hip replacement surgery in Los Angeles on Aug. 26. Keenan’s left hip gave out on July 3 during an A Perfect Circle performance in Luxembourg, forcing him to finish the remainder of the European tour in pain using a cane. To avoid canceling 27 upcoming concerts scheduled between September and December across 18 countries, Keenan needed the procedure completed by a Sept. 1 cutoff date to heal in time.
Refusing to cancel shows due to nonrefundable costs incurred by fans, Keenan plans to proceed with all upcoming dates. Tool is scheduled to play Riot Fest in Chicago on Sept. 19, Louder Than Life in Kentucky on Sept. 20, and Aftershock in Sacramento on Oct. 4. Puscifer will tour Europe and the UK through October and November, before joining A Perfect Circle for performances in Mexico, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Hawaii in November and December.
