Megadeth hit No. 1 on the charts on January 23, and fans rushed to support the band after they announced this would be their final album. This excitement helped it become the bestselling album in the United States. Shortly after, an expanded digital edition was released, taking the top spot and pushing the original album down to No. 2. Now, Megadeth holds both positions on the chart.
Last October, the band scored their first No. 1 on Billboard’s Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart with “Tipping Point.” Another track, “We’ll Be Back,” climbed to No. 5, while “Night St stalker” debuted at No. 8 earlier this month. This farewell album could give the thrash metal legends their first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 when the charts update. Their album Countdown to Extinction came close back in summer 1992, reaching No. 2. Over the years, they have had eight albums in the top 10.
Their last three albums all made it into the top 10 on the Billboard 200. Dystopia and The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead! both peaked at No. 3, released in 2016 and 2022, respectively. Super Collider reached No. 6 a few years earlier.
Megadeth has topped the Top Album Sales chart before. The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead! debuted at No. 1 and held that position for one week. Two other studio albums just missed the top spot by one position. Fans are eagerly watching to see how this farewell album will perform!
