Metallica has had a couple of big returns this past week between playing a surprise club show in their hometown of San Francisco to this interesting chart news from Billboard.
Per the outlet, Metallica (aka: “The Black Album”) has re-entered the top 10 of the Billboard 200 album chart for the first time since its initial release in 1991.
“The former chart-topper surges from No. 158 to No. 9 on the Sept. 25-dated chart, earning 37,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Sept. 16 (up 397%) according to MRC Data,” Billboard reports.
This chart news is due to Metallica releasing a 30th anniversary reissue of “The Black Album” on September 10. Billboard also notes, “Of ‘Metallica’s’ 37,000 units earned for the week, album sales comprise 29,000 (up 1,365%), streaming equivalent album units comprise nearly 7,000 (up 34%, equaling 9.17 million on-demand streams of the set’s tracks) and track equivalent album units comprise 1,000 (up 101%). All versions of the album, old and new, are combined for tracking and charting purposes.”
