Metallica Makes a Comeback in Adelaide After 12 Years, Performing Live for 50,000 Fans

Metallica rocked Adelaide Oval on Wednesday as part of their M72 World Tour, marking their return to Australia after 12 years. Over 50,000 fans filled the venue to see the legendary band perform. The show kicked off with Suicidal Tendencies and Evanescence as the opening acts.

After Ennio Morricone’s “The Ecstasy of Gold” played, Metallica launched into “Creeping Death” and “For Whom the Bell Tolls.” The band, featuring James Hetfield on vocals and rhythm guitar, Lars Ulrich on drums, Kirk Hammett on lead guitar, and Robert Trujillo on bass, kept the energy high. Hetfield addressed the crowd, saying, “Woah man, look at all the love Adelaide has for us and HEAVY METAL!”

They continued with hits like “Leper Messiah,” “King Nothing,” and “Fuel,” accompanied by fire cannons. Before “Fade to Black,” Hetfield spoke about mental health and encouraged anyone struggling to reach out. “We don’t want to lose anyone else to suicide, alright?” he said.

Mid-show, the band honored Cody from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, earning cheers from the crowd. During an interlude, Trujillo and Hammett covered INXS’s “Need You Tonight” and The Angels’ “Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again.” Hetfield then declared, “Do you want Heavy? Metallica gives you HEAVY, BABY!” before diving into “Sad But True.”

As “Nothing Else Matters” played, fans lit up the venue with their smartphone lights, creating a starry atmosphere. “Seek & Destroy” followed, with Hetfield asking who bought Kill ‘Em All. Ulrich climbed onto a platform for “Lux Æterna” from their latest album, 72 Seasons.

The night reached its peak with “Master Of Puppets,” “One,” and the explosive “Enter Sandman,” complete with fireworks. Hetfield shouted, “ADELAIDE AND METALLICA TOGETHER AT LAST, METALLICA LOVES ADELAIDE!” The M72 World Tour continues, and fans can’t wait for more.
