Metallica’s blood drive started as a simple idea during their tour. It was a way to connect with fans beyond the stage. But it quickly grew into something much bigger. In April 2025, Metallica teamed up with the American Red Cross through their All Within My Hands foundation. A year later, the results are impressive. The band’s global blood drive has collected over 40,000 donations. That’s not just a number; it shows the real impact Metallica is making.
The blood drive coincided with the band’s M72 tour. At select concert stops, fans didn’t just line up for merchandise or a good spot in the crowd. They also visited donation stations set up nearby, turning a concert night into a chance to give back.
According to the Red Cross, about 16% of donors were first-timers, with nearly half of them aged between 16 and 24. This shows a younger generation getting involved in something important, reflecting a growing trend among Gen Z to participate in blood donations and organ registries.
Drummer Lars Ulrich expressed his excitement about the initiative, saying, “We’re thrilled the Metallica Family recognizes the importance of blood donation and didn’t hesitate to rally behind this lifesaving effort. Their enthusiasm has made a real difference, and we’re honored to stand alongside them.”
Darren Irby, the Red Cross executive director for national partnerships, added, “What Metallica and their fans have accomplished this year is truly monumental. They are inspiring people to give blood for the first time and energizing young adults about the donation process.”
Metallica is making a difference in the world. Sometimes, the loudest bands create the quietest impact. You can still help by donating blood.
