To close out the summer music festivities; Digital Noise Mag had the privilege once again to attend Philadelphia’s annual local music festival, Made In America. The JAY-Z curated two-day music festival was held on Saturday August 31st and Sunday September 1st. The concert is a staple of Philly’s Labor Day Weekend celebrations which was back in the city for an eighth year, once again located right on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway a few block stretch in front of the Art Museum. The everyday traffic was replaced with eager concert goers swarming the stages. This Live Nation event offered local Philly food vendors and trucks serving pizza, vegan options, cheesesteaks, water ice, pretzels, etc. The event of course featured several stages; the Rocky, Liberty, Freedom, and Tidal Stages. With performances from the best of the best in hip-hop such as Cardi B, Travis Scott, Lizzo, Gucci Mane, Juice Wrld and many more. All the artists took the stage with one purpose, to give the fans a great experience and share the love. Leaving the weekend with some memorable moments, including Beyonce celebrating her 38th birthday backstage with husband Jay-Z, Cardi B’s barricade runway twerk session with the fans, and Travis Scott closing out the weekend with an impressive fireworks show.

Highlights from the best performances at MIA:

Cardi B American rapper, singer, songwriter, and Grammy award winning artist; stole the show on the “Rocky” stage in neon rainbow colored jumpsuit. Keeping the high energy with her entire personality shining through her performance, stating it’s karaoke night singing along with the crowd. At one point she climbed the rafters during her performance, to get a better look at everyone’s faces. Before taking center stage, the rapper said hi to everyone in the front row  — and, at one point, twerked on the festival goers before officially kicking off her setlist with “Get Up 10.” Showing off her moves during “Money Bag,” she paused to tell the crowd that “I’ve always had a special love for Philly — even when I was a stripper.”

Lizzo is one of the breakthrough artists of 2019, so it was a little surprising that she was scheduled to perform on the Liberty stage — especially since her soul-shouting set drew far more people than the main stage artist Gucci Mane. She turned the stage into her own personal platform of promoting body positivity for women and self actualization. Encouraging all to become your own soulmate, love yourself first. There are people in the world, “who want to take that joy away from us.” but goes on to tell the audience “you deserve to feel good as hell.” leading into her 2016 hit, Good as Hell. Not only was she the woman of our dreams and everything we needed & some, but Lizzo closed out her set with the hit record “Juice,” and yes she broke out her secret weapon the famous flute solo.

Travis Scott hitting the main stage on Day 2, tuning in a huge crowd for a remake Astroworld show, with blow up figures on stage, trippy visuals, and autotune music to make you feel out of this world. This all american rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer; put on an hour set of his most popular hits that got the crowd rowdy as ever, even cutting one song short due to a fan rushing stage. shortly after announcing that new music will be  “coming really fucking soon”. To end out the night with fan favorite SICKO MODE, he walked off stage as a firework show hit the night sky.
