Mikkey Dee, the longtime drummer for Motörhead and Scorpions, has joined William Shatner’s new heavy metal album. Dee will play on a cover of Judas Priest’s “Living After Midnight” alongside the 95-year-old actor.
Shatner says he wanted “pounding beats” to drive the music. “The drums drive the emotion,” he adds. “Heavy metal should hit you in the chest and move your soul.”
The album will also feature Shatner teaming with Judas Priest singer Rob Halford on “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’.” It will include covers of songs by metal greats like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. The full track list, guest list and album title have not been revealed.
Shatner is also thinking about bringing the project to the stage. He’s planning a live event that would mix concert, theater and big visuals. Organizers say it would be an immersive show with legendary musicians and Shatner’s larger-than-life presence. No dates or venues have been announced yet.
