The country music legend passed away in Nashville after a brief battle with cancer.
Country music legend Dolly Parton died on Tuesday at age 80 in Nashville following a brief battle with cancer, her publicist announced. On Wednesday, Miley Cyrus paid tribute to her honorary godmother in a social media post, writing that Parton was an “angel by my side” and sharing that one of their final conversations focused on music and metamorphosis.
Miley’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus, also remembered his decadeslong friend on Instagram, recalling a recent message from Parton where she told him she loved him “with her whole heart.” Parton and Miley Cyrus shared a close relationship and collaborated frequently over the years, including appearances on Hannah Montana, a duet on Parton’s 2023 album Rockstar, and a new version of “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” recorded earlier this year for Parton’s 80th birthday.
