Miley Cyrus Shares Voice Mail from Taylor Hawkins Telling Her to Cover Def Leppard

Miley Cyrus took part in the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert in Los Angeles this week. The pop star performed with Def Leppard and shared vocals on their classic hit “Photograph.” As it turns out, that moment was something Hawkins truly would have loved.

Cyrus shared via Twitter a voice mail she received from Hawkins. He says in the brief message, “What up, Miley? It’s Taylor. Heard you’re movin. WAAAHHHHH! I’m listening to ‘Photograph’ by Def Leppard. You could kill that one. Make [bassist Chris] Chaney learn that.” (Note: Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney has performed as part of Cyrus’ backing band on a number of occasions.)

Cyrus wrote, “A personal request from the legend himself. #TaylorHawkins my friend, my idol…. My neighbor. Growing up on a farm I never could see the light of another house nearby, but living by Taylor for the years that I did out in LA were some of the most fun times of my life.”

She added, “I miss Taylor so much like everybody else. It was such an honor to celebrate him last night and perform w @DefLeppard. So lucky to have known him not just as a superstar but to have spent time watching him just be a dad and a husband! Last night was the most special way to remember the MOST special person! @foofighers forever.”

Cyrus was part of an absolutely stacked lineup of guests that performed in honor of the late Foo Fighters drummer at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on September 27. Scroll below to see the complete setlist from the night and some fan-shot footage.
