In December 2025, three rare vinyl records from Misfits, Tool, and Metallica sold for nearly $14,000, according to Discogs’ monthly Top 25 Most Expensive Records Sold list. The standout was a 1978 7-inch single from Misfits, which fetched an impressive $7,550, making it the highest sale of the month.
This Misfits single took the No. 1 spot on the list. It’s known that Glenn Danzig has around 100 unused vinyl discs from the first pressing, but they didn’t come with sleeves. He paired those discs with sleeves from the second pressing to fulfill an order from Tesco Vee at Schoolkids Records in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Collectors refer to this combination as the third pressing.
Tool’s special cut pressing of their 1996 album Ænima sold for $3,488, landing at No. 11. This album remains highly sought after, especially since the band hasn’t reissued their older vinyl.
Metallica’s 1984 test pressing of Ride the Lightning brought in $2,500, placing it at No. 24. This sale shows that fans are still eager for early items related to the band’s classic albums.
December 2025 was a big month for rock and metal vinyl sales. Other notable sales included Nirvana’s Nevermind, which sold for $4,200 and another copy for $2,790. A 1977 Sex Pistols single, “God Save The Queen,” went for $3,800.
Two versions of Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here from 1984 also made the list, with one limited-edition pressing selling for $4,000 and another for $3,333. The Velvet Underground & Nico’s 1967 mono “Torso” cover edition took the No. 2 spot at $7,300.
Discogs tracks these sales to show how much collectors are willing to pay for rare pressings and test pressings. December 2025 proved that rare vinyl from rock and metal remains a solid investment for dedicated fans.
