Mudhoney and OvO Will Play Tauranga Shows on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31

Seattle grunge band Mudhoney will play at The Mount’s Totara Street venue in Tauranga on Oct. 30. The next night, Oct. 31, Italian duo OvO takes the stage at Ōkahukura on Grey St., according to SunLive.

The OvO show ends the duo’s New Zealand tour. Tauranga act Threat.Meet.Protocol will open for them. Hoick and Flogging a Dead One Horse Town are also on the Halloween bill.

OvO mixes punk, metal, industrial, art, and electronica into one loud sound. Over 25 years, the group has played more than 1,000 gigs and put out 11 albums. Its latest is Gemma.

Two people make up the duo: singer and guitarist Stefania Pedretti and drummer Bruno Dorella. SunLive calls OvO one of the busiest bands in the worldwide noisy rock scene.

Mudhoney helped start Seattle’s grunge scene in the early 1990s. It was the first real hit for Seattle’s Sub Pop Records. The label released the band’s first single, “Touch Me I’m Sick,” and its debut EP, Superfuzz Bigmuff, in 1988.

“Nirvana may have been the band that put an entire generation in flannel, and Pearl Jam and Soundgarden both sold a lot more records, but Mudhoney were truly the band that made the 1990s grunge rock movement possible,” wrote Mark Deming, as quoted by SunLive.

The SunLive column also lists other music news. Beck has a new album, Ride Lonesome. Tom Waits has a new release made with Massive Attack, along with a spoken word piece called “The Fly.”

Elvis Costello has released a 49th anniversary edition of his debut album, My Aim Is True. It spans five CDs and holds 104 songs.

Mark the dates. Mudhoney plays Oct. 30 at the Totara St. venue, and OvO plays Oct. 31 at Ōkahukura on Grey St. Both shows are in Tauranga.
