Nelly Furtado’s “Maneater” Enters the Spotify Billion Streams Club

Nelly Furtado’s hit “Maneater” has officially joined the Spotify Billions Club, surpassing one billion streams. This marks her second song to hit this milestone, following her 2006 collaboration “Promiscuous” with Timbaland. Furtado co-wrote “Maneater” with Timbaland, Danja, and Jim Beanz, who also produced the track. It peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached No. 2 in Canada, becoming the second best-selling digital track there in 2006.

Furtado described “Maneater” as a “couture pop” song, comparing it to the work of electroclash artist Peaches. The song features a loud beat and bold vocals. Critics praised it throughout 2006, and it ranked highly on the Village Voice’s Pazz & Jop critics’ poll at the end of the year.

Furtado worked closely with Timbaland on her 2006 album, Loose, which also produced the hit “Say It Right.” That year, she, Timbaland, and Justin Timberlake teamed up for another No. 1 hit, “Give It To Me,” celebrating their dominance in mid-2000s pop music.

In a fun story from 2010, Furtado recalled that a speaker caught fire while they were recording “Maneater” in Miami. The beat was so powerful that it scared them! They even put it away for a few weeks until they felt brave enough to play it again.
