The trailer for Elton John: Never Too Late, a new documentary about music legend Elton John, is out now. Directed by The September Issue’s R.J. Cutler and John’s husband David Furnish, the film comes to Disney+ on Dec. 13 after a limited theatrical run beginning Nov. 15.

Elton John: Never Too Late follows John as he prepares for his final North American concert at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The show wrapped up the North American leg of Sir Elton’s record-breaking Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, the highest grossing tour of all time and the only tour to gross more than $800 million. The Dodger Stadium concert was previously featured in Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium, a livestream event on Disney+ on Nov. 20, 2022, which remains available to stream on the platform as a concert film.

Throughout the forthcoming Never Too Late, John reflects back on his 50-year career in music. He presents an unvarnished look at the ups and downs of his life behind the scenes, including his struggle with addiction and coming to terms with his sexuality. The movie also weaves in historic performance footage, excerpts from John’s private journals, and home video footage of his family life, tracing his path from obscurity to one of the most beloved entertainers in the world. It’s a triumphant portrait of one of popular music’s greatest talents.

Upon Never Too Late’s premiere at Toronto International Film Festival in September, John told reporters he was especially proud of the personal side of the film. Although it features plenty of musical highlights from throughout John’s career, he’s especially focused on his family life with Furnish and their two children, Zachary and Elijah. “On my tombstone, I don’t want it to say he sold a million records,” John said. “I want it to say he was a great dad and great husband.”
