A new South Jersey spot is getting national buzz. Happy Place Homemade in Medford, NJ, was named the #2 Best Donut Shop in America by the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. It’s the only New Jersey shop in the top 10.
Opened in January 2026 by Medford native Tyler Gerber, Happy Place mixes retro vibes with fresh ideas. They make scratch donuts, soft serve and specialty coffee using high-quality ingredients. Donuts are made all day on a custom Belshaw Insider Donut Robot, and you can watch the process through the shop’s open setup.
The menu changes often. The Test Kitchen tries bold, seasonal flavors like Brown Butter Peach Crumb, Maple Bacon and Lemon Sugar Blueberry. They also offer creative treats: Happy Stacks (soft serve layered with donuts), Donut Dandies (donut and soft serve sandwiches) and Perfects (upgraded soft serve parfaits). The soft serve uses local milk and real fruit purées for a creamy feel.
Happy Place is built as a hangout. There’s a cozy inside, a drive-thru and online ordering. Crowds showed up even before the grand opening, and fans have kept coming back.
The shop will expand its hours starting July 6, 2026 and will be open seven days a week until 10:00 PM. With a daring menu and a friendly vibe, Happy Place Homemade is fast becoming a must-stop for anyone who loves sweet treats and good local spots.
