Phil Collins’ son Nic tells Rolling Stone that his dad is “definitely retired.” Speaking to the outlet about his band, Better Strangers, he also talked about playing drums for Phil’s solo band, as well as with Genesis, over the past few years.

“I think at the moment, he’s definitely retired,” he said. “I think that show in London was my dad’s last show,” referring to  the final show on the Genesis reunion tour. He also noted that his father said that he was done with touring in 2004, but started touring again in 2018. In recent years, though, Collins has struggled with health issues which prevent him from playing drums. When Collins began touring again, he used Nic as his drummer, first on his solo tours, and more recently on the Genesis reunion tour.

“You can never be sure, but I also do think that my dad is probably excited about the next step in his life. Music has given him so much, but he’s also given so much to it. His career has pretty much determined his life for the past 50 years. I think for him to be able to take a step back and not have that pressure that he’s had for decades, I think is going to be nice for him. For me, I think that was that, but who knows?”
