Shenandoah and Nickelback have teamed up for an exciting cross-genre collaboration that puts a fresh spin on Shenandoah’s classic 1989 hit, “The Church on Cumberland Road.” This song, which topped the country charts in both the U.S. and Canada, gets a rock makeover thanks to Nickelback’s lead singer, Chad Kroeger. The new version stays true to the original while Kroeger’s modern vocals add a new energy, making it appealing to both old fans and new listeners.
To accompany the release, there’s a fully animated music video created by Cartuna. The video brings the 1989 version to life and features Kroeger, adding a visual element to this exciting project. Shenandoah hinted at this collaboration on social media with the phrase “Two worlds collide,” highlighting the blend of country and rock.
The idea for this collaboration came from casual conversations between Shenandoah’s lead singer, Marty Raybon, and Chad Kroeger at music festivals. They discussed the similarities in their music and how they could mix things up in their live performances. Raybon shared, “It’s always great to connect with others in the music industry. After a few text messages, we were off and running with what is one of the coolest things we’ve ever done. Shenandoah and Nickelback. Who would have thought?”
Chad Kroeger expressed his excitement, saying, “We’ve always respected the artists who came before us, and Shenandoah is one of those bands that helped define an era. Collaborating on ‘The Church On Cumberland Road’ was a blast. It feels as vibrant today as it did back then.”
