Nicki Minaj made chart history today, with her 2009 mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty debuting at No.2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
The 2009 mixtape was recently re-released on streaming platforms with three new tracks on May 14. Beam Me Up Scotty is now Minaj’s fifth project to debut at No.2.
With this recent achievement, the EP is now the highest-charting re-released mixtape from a rapper and the highest-debuting female rap mixtape in Billboard 200 history. The multi-talented MC took to social media to thank her fans for reaching this milestone.
“I love you guys so much,” she captioned the Instagram post. “Thank you. Can’t wait to share my album with you real soon. I have to say this. Don’t care who takes it the wrong way.”
Minaj continued, explaining how Beam Me Up Scotty’s success came down to her loyal fanbase of Barbz.
“No radio, very little playlisting due to a surprise release (artists get over 100 playlists for big launches), no TikTok challenges (which has become extremely helpful to all artists, love the app, btw) no merch to tie into sales, and no pre-existing singles out to add to my first-week sales so this makes it mean more to me because it really just boils down to having the best fans on earth that rode with me 12 years later!”
Along with thanking her fans, she also thanked those who have nurtured her career all these years including her label, Drake, Lil Wayne, Fendi, Deb Antney, and DJ Holiday.
Upon its re-release, Beam Me Up Scotty sold over 80,000 equivalent album units in its first week. The EP featured fan favorites such as “Itty Bitty Piggy,” “Chi-Raq,” “Slumber Party” and “I Get Crazy,” as well as three new tracks: “Seeing Green,” featuring her Young Money crew Drake and Lil Tunechi, a solo track called “Fractions” and a remix to “Crocodile Teeth” by dancehall sensation Skillibeng.
