Oasis performed for more than 250,000 people over two nights at Knebworth Park in August 1996, marking the largest UK live rock concerts in history according to official figures. Ticket demand reached 2 million requests—with co-promoter Chris York noting that 10 million calls were logged—and every ticket sold out within hours via phone lines and physical venue sales. Oasis will return to Knebworth Park for the first time since those historic shows as part of a 2027 world tour.
The 1996 shows followed the release of the band’s 1995 album, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, which sold 22 million copies worldwide and became the UK’s fifth best-selling album of all time. Prior to Knebworth, the band sold out two nights at Manchester’s Maine Road Stadium in April 1996 in just two minutes. Director Jake Scott later released a documentary film titled Oasis Knebworth 1996 focusing on the event. Following the Knebworth shows, singer Liam Gallagher temporarily quit an American tour, and the group ultimately disbanded in 2009 after years of lineup changes and ongoing tension between the Gallagher brothers.
