Olivia Rodrigo Named Songwriter Of The Year At 2022 ASCAP Pop Music Awards

Olivia Rodrigo will be celebrated as the songwriter of the year at the ASCAP Pop Music Awards. The show will be held virtually again this year from Monday (April 11) through Thursday (April 14).

As Billboard reports, Rodrigo, 19, is one of the youngest winners of this award since the ASCAP Pop Music Awards were launched in 1984. Beyoncé was also 19 when she won in 2001. Debbie Gibson was 18 when she won in 1989. Rodrigo will accept the award in an exclusive video on @ASCAP social media.

Rodrigo recently released Olivia Rodrigo: Driving Home 2 U (A Sour Film)which premiered on Disney+ on March 25.

The film follows the star on a road trip from Salt Lake City, Utah, where she began writing Sour, to Los Angeles California. Along the way, according to Billboard, Rodrigo “recounts memories of creating the project with producer and songwriter Dan Nigro, as well as the rollercoaster of emotions she was going through as a heartbroken teenager at the time.”

The publication also spoke with Rodrigo about the project. “It was one of the most interesting parts, looking back on me making that album,” she said. “I remember having so many doubts and I was like, ‘Nobody’s going to like any of this!’ It’s cool that lots of people did. It’s confidence-boosting.”

Recently, Olivia Rodrigo, Silk Sonic, and Chris Stapleton were among the big winners at the 2022 Grammy Awards in Las Vegas. Rodrigo won best new artist, Best Pop Vocal Album for Sour and Best Pop Solo performance for “Driver’s License.”

She was also celebrated at the 2022 iHeartRadio Music Awards, which honored the legendary Jennifer Lopez with the 2022 iHeartRadio Icon Award, honoring her global impact on pop culture, longevity, and continued relevance as a touring and radio force with a loyal fan base worldwide. Olivia Rodrigo took home two awards, Female Artist of the Year and Best New Pop Artist.
