Polaris, who were the night’s opener, have entered 2018 with the Australian metalcore torch held high in their hands. One of 2017’s most anticipated heavy releases, Polaris’ debut LP ‘THE MORTAL COIL’ stunned audiences and critics upon its release in November, hitting #6 on the ARIA Album Charts, scoring a Triple J Feature Album and taking out the fan-voted KillYourStereo.com Album of the Year – surpassing the already high expectations around the band set by 2016 EP ‘THE GUILT & THE GRIEF’ and its impressive touring cycle, which had seen Polaris gain a reputation as one of Australia’s most invigorating live heavy acts.
The Devil Wears Prada were up next. Built on a diverse array of heavy, dark, melodic and genre-defying music; hardened and sharpened by putting in road work together since the days when they had to skip class to tour: The Devil Wears Prada is at the forefront of a movement that bridges the gap between Rockstar Mayhem and the Vans Warped Tour. The Devil Wears Prada are unwavering in their commitment to each other, their fans, their art, their higher calling toward truth and to their desire to engage. The emotion remains sincere, the musicianship supreme.
August Burns Red are a GRAMMY® Award-nominated Pennsylvania quintet—John “JB” Brubaker [lead guitar], Brent Rambler [rhythm guitar], Matt Greiner [drums], Jake Luhrs [lead vocals], and Dustin Davidson [bass]—push themselves harder, raze expectations, and reach a new level. It’s why they’ve become a heavy music torchbearer. In 2015, Found In Far Away Places marked their second consecutive Top 10 debut on the Billboard Top 200. The single “Identity” notched a GRAMMY® Award nod in the category of “Best Metal Performance.” A streaming juggernaut, both “Identity” and “Ghosts” [feat. Jeremy McKinnon] crossed the 3-million mark on Spotify. When it came time to record their eighth full-length Phantom Anthem, the game didn’t change. The musicians put their heads down and rallied around the same shared goal, upping the ante across the board. The musical equivalent of a clenched fist haymaker, the grooves hit harder, the hooks blaze brighter, and the instrumentation ignites even more intricacy as evidenced by lead singles “Invisible Enemy” and “The Frost.”
