Pearl Jam may have a song called “Rats,” but now they’re welcoming some cats at their headquarters. The Seattle rock band shared on Instagram that a tuxedo cat was found sunbathing in their parking lot earlier this summer. The team helped rescue her and her kittens, sharing a video of the adorable litter and introducing them as the “Purrl Jam Family.”
The mother cat has been named Mamasan, inspired by the Mamasan trilogy, which includes the first three songs Eddie Vedder wrote for the band: “Alive,” “Once,” and “Footsteps.” The kittens are named after Pearl Jam songs: Dark Matter, the title track of their upcoming 2024 album; Gremmie, after the Lost Dogs B-side “Gremmie Out of Control”; and Bugs, from the 1994 album Vitalogy.
Thanks to the Alley Cat Project, a local non-profit focused on helping Seattle’s feral cat population, Mamasan and her three kittens were safely captured. They were spayed, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. While Mamasan, described as a “true feral,” was returned to the outdoors, her kittens will stay at Pearl Jam headquarters until they find forever homes.
The band is keeping the kittens at their headquarters due to a lack of foster homes for animals in need. They encourage fans to support the Alley Cat Project by donating or purchasing supplies from their wish list.
