Pearl Jam Guitarist Advocates for Alice in Chains Induction into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Mike McCready, the guitarist for Pearl Jam, showed his support for Alice in Chains at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony on November 8. He believes the band deserves to be inducted, especially since three of the four major grunge bands have already received this honor.

“Alice is one of the bands that came up with all of us,” McCready told ABC Audio on the red carpet. “They … kinda hit first out of everyone.” This year, Soundgarden joined Nirvana and Pearl Jam as inducted grunge acts, leaving Alice in Chains as the only member of Seattle’s big four without Hall of Fame status.

Alice in Chains made history with their 1990 debut album, *Facelift*, which was the first grunge record to earn Gold certification from the RIAA. This milestone came before the releases of Nirvana’s *Nevermind* and Soundgarden’s *Badmotorfinger*.

McCready reminisced about touring with Alice in Chains in the early days. “We went on tour with them early on, opening up for [Alice] down the West Coast, and had all sorts of crazy stuff going on,” he said. When asked about Alice in Chains’ qualifications for the Hall of Fame, he kept it simple: “They’re a f great band.”

During the ceremony, Jerry Cantrell and Mike McCready performed together, celebrating the legacy of grunge music. Nirvana was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014, followed by Pearl Jam in 2017. The ceremony will be broadcast as a primetime special on January 1, featuring performances from the event.
