Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready will appear at San Diego Comic-Con to promote his new graphic novel, Farewell to Seasons. The book grew from a few vivid dreams, including ones about Layne Staley and Chris Cornell, McCready says. He wants the story to examine why the Seattle music scene happened, why so many musicians died, and whether it was worth it — questions he doesn’t claim to have answers for. Farewell to Seasons also aims to capture the collaborative spirit of that scene. McCready points to his work with Temple of the Dog and Mad Season and how musicians in Seattle often played on each other’s records and showed up for one another. He says he feels a kinship with comic-book creators because of their artistry, boundary-pushing and DIY ethic. The graphic novel arrives in October alongside a collection of original music. San Diego Comic-Con runs Thursday through Sunday.
