Thanksgiving week is here, and that means a lot of travel! Millions of people are hitting the road and taking to the skies to spend time with family and friends. While the food is a big part of the holiday, it’s really about being with loved ones.
This year, about 81.8 million people are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home during the Thanksgiving holiday, which runs from November 25 to December 1. In Pennsylvania, more travelers are expected on the roads than last year. AAA predicts that around 73 million people will drive, making up nearly 90% of all Thanksgiving travelers. That’s an increase of 1.3 million drivers compared to last year.
If you’re in Pennsylvania, be ready for heavy traffic, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons before Thanksgiving. The Sunday after the holiday will also be busy. To avoid the worst jams, try to travel in the morning and keep an eye on the weather and road conditions.
Flying is also popular this year, with 6 million people expected to take domestic flights, a 2% increase from last year. The top travel destination for Thanksgiving is Orlando, Florida, while Paris, France, is the favorite international spot.
Whether you’re staying in Pennsylvania or heading somewhere far, we wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with good food and great company!
