Phil Campbell, Motörhead guitarist, dies at 64

Phil Campbell, the longtime guitarist for Motörhead, has passed away at the age of 64. His band, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, which features his children, shared the sad news on Instagram. They wrote, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Philip Anthony Campbell, who passed away peacefully last night after a long and brave battle in intensive care following a major operation.”

The post also highlighted Campbell as a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and a proud grandfather, affectionately known as “Bampi.” His family expressed that he was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. They asked for privacy during this difficult time.

Campbell joined Motörhead in 1984, replacing Brian “Robbo” Robertson. The lineup then included iconic frontman Lemmy Kilmister, drummer Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor, and guitarist Michael “Würzel” Burston, turning the band into a quartet. In 1992, drummer Mikkey Dee joined, and after Burston left in 1995, the band returned to a trio with Kilmister, Campbell, and Dee. This lineup lasted until Lemmy’s death in 2015, after which Motörhead disbanded.

Throughout his career, Campbell played on 16 studio albums with Motörhead. He also released three albums with the Bastard Sons and a solo record in 2019. His music and legacy will continue to live on.
