Philadelphia Art Museum to Host Surrealist Family Festival

The Philadelphia Art Museum is throwing a “Family Festival: Sweet Dreams” on Sunday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the main building. This fun event is all about creative activities inspired by the new exhibition “Dreamworld: Surrealism at 100.” Admission is pay-what-you-wish, and it’s free for members.

“Dreamworld: Surrealism at 100” celebrates 100 years of surrealist art and is divided into six themes. One section focuses on artists who escaped Europe during World War II and continued their work in Mexico and the U.S. This exhibition is the museum’s big winter event and is the only U.S. stop on an international tour with the Centre Pompidou.

Kids can enjoy dream-themed art projects in the Art Kids Studio, a quiet sensory-friendly space, and surrealist games in the Great Stair Hall. There’s also a chance to join a collaborative portrait project on the Great Stair Hall Balcony, led by local artist Devyn Dais.

Other activities include The Absurd Word poetry project, inspired by surrealism, and a psychedelic-themed music performance with coloring and creative stations.

For more details about “Family Festival: Sweet Dreams,” check out the Philadelphia Art Museum’s website. The museum is located at 200 Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Don’t miss this chance for a day of art and fun!
