Philadelphia Celebrates the Life of Pierre Robert: Honoring a Legend with Music, Memories, and One Last Hug

Philadelphia recently said a heartfelt goodbye to the “heart and soul” of rock radio, Pierre Robert. The sold-out “Pierre Robert: A Show of Life” concert, held at The Fillmore Philadelphia on December 17, 2025, wasn’t just a memorial; it was a vibrant, loud, and emotional tribute to the man who graced 93.3 WMMR’s airwaves for over 44 years.

The evening brought together a “who’s who” of rock royalty, featuring artists who Pierre didn’t just play on the radio, but whom he befriended and championed from their earliest days. The lineup was a testament to his impact, featuring powerful performances by Brent Smith and Zach Myers of Shinedown, Lzzy Hale and Joe Hottinger of Halestorm, and Ed Roland of Collective Soul. Local legends The Hooters and David Uosikkinen’s In the Pocket also took the stage, representing the rich history of the city’s rock scene that Pierre helped cultivate.

Throughout the night, the sentiment was clear: Pierre was more than a voice on the radio; he was a “warm hug” to the city of Philadelphia. His nephew shared a poignant reminder from the stage, noting that Philly loves people who are unapologetically themselves—a trait Pierre embodied as a “crazy hippie from California” who became a local icon. The atmosphere at The Fillmore reflected Pierre’s own spirit of kindness, with attendees encouraged to greet and hug strangers, turning a room full of listeners into a massive, extended family.

In true Pierre fashion, the event focused on the community he loved. A portion of the proceeds from the concert went to MANNA (Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance), a nonprofit Pierre supported for years that provides medically tailored meals to those facing serious illnesses. As we move forward without his familiar “Greetings, citizens” on the midday airwaves, the “Show of Life” served as a reminder that Pierre Robert’s influence—rooted in peace, love, and rock and roll—will continue to echo through the streets of Philadelphia for generations to come.
