Philadelphia Zoo Challenges Community to Complete 250,000 Actions for Animals by 2026

The Philadelphia Zoo is celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary with an exciting initiative that everyone can join. They’ve launched the 250,000 Actions for Animals campaign, aiming to inspire people in Philly and beyond to complete 250,000 acts that help animals, people, and our shared environment by the end of 2026.

This initiative is all about wildlife conservation and bringing the community together. As Dr. Jo-Elle Mogerman, the Zoo’s President & CEO, says, 2026 will be a year to remember—not just for celebrations, but for making a real impact on wildlife and future generations.

Getting involved is easy! Actions can be simple and meaningful. You can pick up litter, plant native plants, count birds or frogs, use reusable bags, check on a neighbor’s garden, or take someone birding for the first time. The Zoo hopes these actions will inspire everyone to think about how humans and wildlife can thrive together.

Throughout 2026, the Zoo will host fun activities like making enrichment toys, building bird feeders, and conducting wildlife surveys. But you can also take action anywhere—at home, in a park, or even in your backyard. Share your actions on the Zoo’s website with a short description and a photo.

To celebrate your contributions, the Zoo will give away 250 Gifts of Gratitude, including memberships, tickets, gift cards, and special animal experiences. With Philadelphia’s creative spirit, the Zoo believes the community can rise to the challenge. Together, we can build a better future where wildlife and people thrive side by side.
