A note from Pierre Robert: It was a beautiful night on Broad Street to honor Jerry Blavat! On Saturday we gathered at the Academy of Music to honor our dear friend and a Philadelphia legend.

Below are a few photos from the tribute concert. Jacky Bam Bam and I were among your hosts for the evening. There were so many amazing performers, including Bobby Wilson, son of legendary Jackie Wilson, doing one of his father’s songs. Darlene Love also did a wonderful rendition of “River Deep, Mountain High,” and we heard from Adam Weiner of Low Cut Connie, who carries the spirit of the Geator into the next generation.

I’ve also included photos from my visit to Jerry’s home studio where he broadcasted Geator Gold Radio. Jacky and I recorded the final show ever in that studio, and we want to thank everyone who tuned in Sunday morning to hear us play it back on WMMR.

It was a very special experience to be inside this studio. You can watch video of that first visit here. As you can see below, all the Geator’s 45s are stacked up on top of each other like playing cards with no labels and no sleeves! How he managed to find what he was looking for is utterly beyond me, but perhaps that is testament to his genius as an emcee and DJ. Long live Jerry Blavat!
