Pink Floyd is on the verge of a major milestone on the Billboard 200 chart. Their legendary album, The Dark Side of the Moon, has just reached its 996th nonconsecutive week on the chart. This means it’s only four weeks away from hitting 1,000 weeks overall. Right now, it sits at #167.
Released in 1973, The Dark Side of the Moon already holds the record for the most weeks on the Billboard 200, a title it earned back in October 1983 after 491 weeks. The album first appeared on the chart in March 1973 and climbed to #1 on April 28 of that year. It stayed on the chart almost continuously until October 8, 1988, spending 741 out of 813 weeks there. After a break, it returned to the Billboard 200 on December 12, 2009, thanks to new rules that allowed catalog albums to re-enter the chart.
In 2023, Pink Floyd celebrated the 50th anniversary of The Dark Side of the Moon by releasing a special box set. This set includes a remastered version of the album and a live concert from 1974. Fans are eagerly watching as the band approaches this incredible milestone!
