A new DMX album is coming. In honor of the rapper’s legacy and ahead of what would have been his 54th birthday, Let Us Pray: Chapter X will set the prayers that were featured on DMX’s first six records to music for the first time, marrying hip-hop and gospel music on one groundbreaking project.
Created alongside Grammy award-winning songwriter and producer Warryn Campbell, the album will contain features from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Killer Mike, MC Lyte, LeCrae, Mary Mary, Terrace Martin, The Walls Group, and Lena Byrd Miles. Let Us Pray: Chapter X will be available in a variety of formats. The album’s first preview, “Favor,” featuring Killer Mike, Mary Mary & RoyzNoyz Orchestra is out now.
Born Earl Simmons in 1970, DMX introduced himself to the wider world in 1998 with his multi-platinum-selling debut album It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot. Menacing but introspective, hits like “Ruff Ryders Anthem” and “Get At Me Dog” established DMX as a raw and relentless talent, a worthy addition to the stacked lineup of 90s hip-hop heavy-hitters. That same year, DMX released his sophomore album, Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood, which also topped the charts. DMX’s following three records (…And Then There Was X, The Great Depression, and Grand Champ) also grabbed the top spot, making him the first rapper to have their first five albums go straight to the top of the US charts. DMX died at age 50 on April 2, 2021.
In addition to Let Us Pray: Chapter X, DMX’s …And Then There Was X, is getting a vinyl repress. Out November 15 in a 2LP edition, the chart-topping record features beloved hits like “Party Up,” “What’s My Name?” and “What These B—–s Want.” The album was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2001 Grammys.
