Powerball Jackpot Hits $1.3 Billion After No Labor Day Winner

The Powerball jackpot has soared to $1.3 billion after no one won the Labor Day drawing. This makes it the fifth-largest jackpot in Powerball history. “America has waited all year for a chance to play for a billion-dollar jackpot,” said Matt Strawn, the Powerball Product Group Chair.

The numbers drawn on Monday were 8, 23, 25, 40, and 53, with a red Powerball of 5. Winners can choose between a lump sum of $589 million or annual payments over 30 years. Ten tickets matched five white balls, each winning $1 million. These winning tickets were sold in nine states: California, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. New Jersey had two winners, while players in Montana and North Carolina boosted their prizes to $2 million with Power Play.

The jackpot has gone unclaimed for 40 drawings since the last winner on May 31. This is nearing the record of 42 drawings, which ended last April when someone in Oregon won $1.326 billion. The biggest win ever was $2.04 billion by Edwin Castro in November 2022.

You can play in 45 states, plus Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands for just $2 a ticket. Your chances of winning something are 1 in 25, but hitting the jackpot is much tougher at 1 in 292 million. The next drawing is set for Wednesday at 10:59 p.m. ET in Tallahassee. Good luck!
