Puddle of Mudd Unveils New Music Video for ‘Free’ from the ‘Kiss the Machine’ Album

Puddle of Mudd released the music video for their new song “Free” on March 23. This track is part of their upcoming album, Kiss the Machine, which will be out in May 2025 through Pavement Entertainment. The video was directed by Vicente Cordero and filmed in Los Angeles.

“Free” holds special meaning for lead singer Wes Scantlin. The song is about breaking away from toxic people and welcoming those who truly want to help. Scantlin shared, “Everybody goes through life with ups and downs, and you can find your way. Along the way, people come around, and they’re not your people. Accept the people who are trying to help you.”

When times get tough, Scantlin turns to his faith. He said, “Look up to God, ask Him for help, and He’ll take you somewhere better.” He hopes listeners can relate to “Free” and find their own message in it. “Keep your head up, improve, and remain awesome. God will guide you in the right direction. Get free. Stay free. Stay kind and be nice to each other,” he added.

Puddle of Mudd formed in 1991 in Kansas City, and Wes Scantlin is the only founding member still with the band. They have sold over seven million albums worldwide, with a significant portion from the US and UK. Their 2001 album, Come Clean, featured several hits.

The band recently released a video for “Rain” in February through LoudHit Records, collaborating with Virgin Music Group. The video was produced by Eric T. Johnson and Aben Eubanks. In November 2025, they will drop another video for a song that appeared unexpectedly via Virgin Records. Scantlin recorded “Monsters” at Warner Chappell Studios in Los Angeles with Johnson.
