Puddle of Mudd released a new music video for their song “Rain” on February 24 through LoudHit Records and Virgin Music Group. This track marks a new chapter for the band, which has sold over 7 million albums worldwide. Lead singer Wes Scantlin shared, “This song is about standing in the storm instead of running from it. It’s honest, it’s exposed, and it’s real. ‘Rain’ feels like where I’m at now.”
The song was produced by Eric T. Johnson and Aben Eubanks. Johnson built NI Music Group and launched LoudHit Records, while Eubanks won a GRAMMY for his work with Kelly Clarkson.
Puddle of Mudd rose to fame in the early 2000s, selling 4 million albums in the U.S. Their 2001 album, Come Clean, featured the hit “Blurry,” which reached the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other popular tracks like “She Hates Me” and “Control” helped shape the post-grunge sound. Johnson emphasized that this isn’t just a nostalgic comeback. “It’s about letting Wes be emotionally present again. ‘Rain’ carries the same soul and emotional weight that made ‘Blurry’ timeless,” he said.
The band also released another video in November for a track that came out in October without any prior notice. Scantlin formed Puddle of Mudd in 1991 in Kansas City and is the only original member still with the band.
Their upcoming album, Kiss The Machine, is set to release in May 2025 through Pavement Entertainment, with Virgin Music Group handling distribution and promotion. The current lineup includes Scantlin, bassist Michael Anthony Grajewski, lead guitarist Miles Schon, and drummer Jon Smith. Schon is the son of Journey guitarist Neal Schon.
