The limited 180-gram audiophile edition of the 1984 album releases on Sept. 18 through Interscope-Capitol Records.
R.E.M.’s 1984 sophomore album, Reckoning, is receiving an audiophile upgrade as the latest addition to the Interscope-Capitol Records Definitive Sound Series. Releasing on Sept. 18, the 180-gram high-definition vinyl pressing is limited to 5,000 numbered copies and features audio sourced from the original analog master tapes. Original co-producers Mitch Easter and Don Dixon were directly involved in the release, which was mastered by engineer Chris Bellman.
Originally released on April 8, 1984, the Gold-certified album reached #27 on the U.S. charts and topped college radio airplay. It includes the singles “So. Central Rain (I’m Sorry)” and “(Don’t Go Back to) Rockville.” Reckoning marks the third R.E.M. project to join the Definitive Sound Series, following December reissues of the band’s debut EP, Chronic Town, and debut album, Murmur, both of which sold out.
