Rage Against the Machine is Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Favorite Band Right Now’

Rage Against the Machine has influenced many in the rock world. Believe it or not, their reach has had a surprising influence in the pop world, too.

In a new cover story for Rolling Stone, pop star Olivia Rodrigo touches on how Rage helped influence “All-American Bitch.” The track opens her new album GUTS. Rodrigo said she’s been listening to RATM a lot this year and that they her “favorite band right now.

She added, “I would just play it over and over again on my way to and from the studio. I want to go to the Rock Hall of Fame so bad because they’re getting inducted.”

Unfortunately, Rodrigo says her schedule is going to prevent her from attending the 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. She says missing Rage being inducted is something she’s “literally going to cry myself to sleep about.”

Rage, of course, is part of a very unique and diverse Rock Hall induction class. Joining them as part of the performer category are Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, George Michael, Willie Nelson and The Spinners.

The 38th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Friday, November 3, 2023. This year, the ceremony returns to New York at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

When it was announced they were going to be inducted, Rage had a very Rage response to the news. They touched on some of the hallmarks of their career. This included their “fierce opposition to the US war machine, white supremacy and exploitation.” They concluded their response with, “Many thanks to the Hall of Fame for recognizing the music and the mission of Rage Against the Machine. We are grateful to all of the passionate fans, the many talented co-conspirators we’ve worked with and all the activists, organizers, rebels and revolutionaries past, present and future who have inspired our art.”
