A rare 45-minute video of Nirvana’s performance from February 17, 1990, is set to be auctioned at Bonhams in Los Angeles. This footage, captured at Iguanas in Tijuana, Mexico, could fetch bids up to $150,000. This show happened over a year before their iconic album, Nevermind, was released.
Film students Peter Tackaberry and Elizabeth Voss recorded the wild set using two Sony Video8 cameras. Tackaberry shared, “Kurt let me set up on the stage to capture the energy and spirit of the performance up close.” The auction includes two master tapes, labeled Camera A and Camera B, along with digital copies on MiniDV. A portable drive will hold uncut footage, edited versions, and snapshots from that night.
The winning bidder will also receive a tour poster from Nirvana’s February 15 show at Raji’s in Los Angeles. Additionally, there’s a white vinyl first pressing of “Bleach,” one of only 1,000 copies made.
This performance featured Chad Channing on drums, who was later replaced by Dave Grohl. The tapes have been kept hidden for 35 years, and the buyer will gain full U.S. rights to the footage.
Bidding for this unique piece of music history ended at 12 p.m. PDT on September 25. Don’t miss out on this chance to own a piece of Nirvana’s legacy!
