Nearly 30 years after Deftones released their 1997 album, *Around the Fur*, the model on its cover, Lisa Hughes, has opened up about her experience. The iconic photo, taken by Rick Kosick during a party with the band, shows Hughes in a bikini at the edge of a jacuzzi.
In a recent interview, Hughes shared that only her close friends knew she was the girl on the album cover. “I wasn’t out there going, ‘It’s me, everybody!’ But I had some cool opportunities from it,” she said. She recalled how people would recognize her, saying, “Oh, this is the girl on the cover of the Deftones [album]!” This recognition even helped her get into clubs, which she laughs about.
Today, the cover still has an impact on her life. “I’ve been signing a lot of *Around the Fur* copies lately for some of my daughter’s friends,” Hughes revealed.
Deftones continues to make music, with their latest album, *private music*, released in 2025. Fans of the band can appreciate how a single photo has created lasting memories and connections for Hughes over the years.
