The Legendary Red Hot Chili Peppers returned to Philadelphia’s Citizen Bank Park Saturday night with company from The Strokes.
The Chili Peppers are out on the road in support of both their latest album “Unlimited Love” which was released back in April, but the band isn’t quite done with releasing new music just yet. RHCP will release a 2nd new album this year titled “Return of the Dream Canteen” which comes out October 14th and once again features the return of guitarist John Frusciante.
The Strokes kicked off the night to an already packed Philadelphia crowd, the set beginning with “Evening Sun” and didn’t stop until the strokes blasted through 10 stand out fan favorite tracks like “Bad Decisions”, “Under Cover of Darkness”, and “Someday”. The Strokes were the perfect addition to the touring line-up and was a great start to what would be a killer night of rock n’ roll.
As the crowd anxiously awaited the presence of Los Angeles legends Anthony Kiedis, Flea, John Frusciante and drummer Chad Smith fans held up signs showing their love of the rock icons and let out chants as well. Around 8:50pm the lights went down and all the members with the exception of Kiedis made their way to the massive stage which featured a waterfall like screen top to bottom. After a brief jam intro, singer Anthony Kiedis joined his bandmates and kicked right into the sets opening track “Around The World” as the crowd went absolutely wild. Already early on you can tell the RHCP brought their A game. They sounded fantastic and their energy mixed with the crowd’s excitement was absolutely electrifying!
The Chili Peppers kicked through classic tracks like “Give It Away”, “Californication”, “Tell Me Baby” while also welcoming in newer tunes like “Black Summer”, “Aquatic Mouth Dance” and “Whatchu Thinkin” off of Unlimited Love.
Overall everything you could have wanted to hear out of a Red Hot Chili Pepper show they played, everything you could want to see as well. The performance featured psychedelic visuals on the massive stage screens and fans further back in the stadium had a great view as well thanks to the touring crew of cameramen capturing all the action up front.
One of my favorite highlights of the set was a performance of the Elton John cover of “Your Song” which features a fantastic solo by guitarist John Frusciante, the set wraps up with encores of “Soul to Squeeze” and the classic record “By The Way”.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers latest tour is worth every penny and I highly suggest if they’re coming your way to make it out to a show!
