Pantera is known for their iconic song “Walk,” but maybe it’s time for them to drop a new track called “Backside 1620.” British Olympic snowboarder Mia Brookes recently shared that she was jamming to Pantera while attempting the challenging backside 1620 trick at the 2026 Winter Games in Italy.
Brookes took a big risk by trying this trick on snow for the first time, hoping to snag a medal. “It’s not like it’s a trick that I could do,” she admitted. “I’ve only ever done it on the airbag, and the last time I tried it was five months ago. But sometimes you’ve just got to grit your teeth and get it done.”
Unfortunately, she couldn’t land the trick and finished in fourth place. “I thought I had it,” she said. “I got it to my feet, but I just gave it too much power. I was listening to my music too loud and spun too quickly. But yeah, I’m pumped.”
Brookes mentioned that she was really into Pantera during her run. “I’m not lying in a hospital bed after this, to be honest. All jokes aside, it’s a gnarly trick to do. There is a higher risk, especially since I would be the second woman to do it. So, yeah, it’s pretty scary.”
Maybe Brookes got the idea to rock out to Pantera after hearing them in that sand-boarding scene from SpongeBob SquarePants. Either way, her bold attempt is definitely something to cheer for!
