Robert Plant has paid tribute to Terry Reid, the British singer, guitarist, and songwriter who passed away on August 4 at the age of 75 after battling cancer. Reid, known as “Superlungs,” famously recommended Plant to Jimmy Page after he declined the lead singer role in Page’s new band, which would later become Led Zeppelin.
In a heartfelt post, Plant shared, “Terry Reid’s enthusiasm and encouragement were incredible back then. We were still teenagers, crashing each other’s gigs and playing ‘Season of the Witch’ over and over. So much fun. He was full of charisma.” Plant continued, “His voice and range captured that carefree era. Superlungs indeed. He opened up a whole new world for me that he chose to step away from. I listen to his album ‘The River’ now and shed a tear for my brother in arms.”
In other news, Robert Plant is back with a new album and his backing band, Saving Grace. This album, also titled Saving Grace, is his first solo release since 2017’s Carry Fire and his first since 2021’s Raise The Roof with Alison Krauss.
In this new project, Plant shares vocals with Suzi Dian. He expressed his enjoyment of working with another singer, saying, “It just worked. It feels like one of those combinations that feels really natural.”
Fans can check out Plant, Dian, and Saving Grace on their cover of Low’s “Everybody’s Song,” which is the lead single from the upcoming album. The album is set to be released on September 26 and is available for pre-order now.
