Sam Fender has announced another big headline show for summer 2022, adding a date in Scarborough to his tour itinerary.

The critically-acclaimed, award-winning North Shields singer-songwriter will bring his much-lauded second album Seventeen Going Under to the Yorkshire town in May. Fender will headline the 8,000-capacity Scarborough Open Air Theatre on May 27.

“Our first ever show in Scarborough on the north east coast,” he wrote on Instagram earlier today (March 7). Tickets will go on general sale at 9am on Friday (11), but fans can sign up for presale access, which begins at 9am on Wednesday (9), now.

The new show is part of a busy few months ahead for Fender, who will kick off his latest UK headline tour on March 20. In June, he will support The Killers at their stadium shows in London and Dublin, while in July he will headline his own show at London’s Finsbury Park.

Last week (March 2), Fender was one of the big winners at the BandLab NME Awards 2022, picking up the awards for Best Album In The World and Best Album By A UK Artist for Seventeen Going Under. He also performed the title track from the record to open the ceremony, which took place at London’s O2 Academy Brixton.

His NME wins followed more success at this year’s BRITs, where he collected the trophy for Best Rock/Alternative Artist. The award was voted for by fans on TikTok and was one of three trophies Fender was in the running for, alongside Artist Of The Year and Album Of The Year.

Seventeen Going Under received rave reviews upon its release, including a glowing five-star report from The Guardian, which said, “Seventeen Going Under is an album rooted in 2021 that, in spirit at least, seems to look back 40-something years, to the brief early 80s period when Top of the Pops played host to the Specials and the Jam. The result is really powerful.”
