The Stuart McIntyre-directed video follows Scott’s character, a man grieving the loss of his mother as he makes fleeting, but sometimes meaningful, connections with new people. In a statement, Scott shared his feelings about the project, “Sam’s masterpiece of a song has become a true friend to me. Working on it was truly cathartic, and I’ll always be grateful to Sam for his extraordinary talent, and for the other artists who made this film, and of course to my mum, who I will hold in my heart til the day I die.”

Sam added, “I’m really excited for the ‘People Watching’ video to be out in the world this week. I was so buzzing when I found out Andrew wanted to be involved – I’m a huge fan of his and he was absolutely perfect for the role.”

When the single first dropped, Fender shared that the song was a tribute to his late friend and mentor, Annie Orwin. “‘People Watching’ is about somebody that was like a surrogate mother to me and passed away last November. I was by her side at the end, slept on a chair next to her,” he said of the song. “It’s about what was going through my head, to and from that place and home.” The song was produced by The War on Drugs’ Adam Granduciel.

Fender is currently gearing up for a sold-out tour of Europe in March, ahead of a Spring US tour. He will return to his native U.K. for a string of shows in the summer, including his biggest show to date at London Stadium on June 6th before three sold-out nights at Newcastle’s St. James Park. Ticket information can be found on Sam’s website.
