Sammy Hagar is celebrating another year around the sun with plenty of rock ‘n’ roll, familiar faces, and an ambitious idea for his next milestone birthday.
The former Van Halen frontman turned 79 on October 13, marking the occasion with his annual Birthday Bash at Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Now in its 36th year, the celebration features three nights of live music, surprise guests and performances spanning Hagar’s long career.
But the Red Rocker already has his sights set on turning 80 in 2027. In an interview with Billboard, Hagar revealed that he hopes to make next year’s celebration bigger and more accessible to fans who have struggled to get tickets in the past.
Sammy Hagar Wants to Make His 80th Birthday Bash Bigger
Hagar has built a tradition around celebrating his birthday with fans in Cabo, but demand for the intimate shows has continued to grow.
According to the singer, he received approximately 100,000 ticket requests for just 1,600 tickets across this year’s three concerts. That enormous gap between demand and availability has inspired him to consider a larger celebration for his 80th birthday.
“My dream would be to play somewhere where I can accommodate every ticket request,” Hagar told Billboard, explaining that he wants fans who have never attended the Birthday Bash to have a chance to experience it.
He even floated the possibility of performing four or five nights at a larger venue, playing a stadium or organizing a free celebration in Cabo.
Although Hagar has not confirmed any plans for the 2027 event, he made it clear that welcoming more fans is his dream for the milestone birthday.
The Birthday Bash Brings Rock ‘n’ Roll Friends Together
Hagar’s annual celebration has become known for its unpredictable performances and surprise appearances from fellow musicians.
Over the years, the event has welcomed artists including Kenny Chesney, Alice Cooper, members of the Grateful Dead, Metallica, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Alice in Chains.
Rather than organizing a tightly rehearsed concert with a fixed guest list, Hagar builds the show around a house band and lets the evening unfold naturally.
He explained that he keeps a repertoire of roughly 400 songs. The spontaneous approach remains one of the Birthday Bash’s biggest attractions. Fans never know exactly who might show up or which songs the musicians might perform together.
For this year’s Birthday Bash, Hagar planned to focus on his solo career and his early years with Montrose.
