Sammy Hagar Expresses Willingness to Collaborate on Completing Unreleased Eddie Van Halen Songs

Sammy Hagar recently expressed his eagerness to work on unfinished tracks by Eddie Van Halen, but he’s waiting for Alex Van Halen to reach out. Alex has been busy collaborating with Steve Lukather and Wolfgang Van Halen to finish enough material for one final album.

“I would love to write a song with Eddie again,” Hagar said. He believes that sharing vocals with David Lee Roth would be “a dream come true” for fans. However, Alex hasn’t contacted him yet. “Alex has the right to do anything he wants with his brother’s stuff, but it’s really a shame,” Hagar added. Eddie Van Halen passed away in 2020 after a battle with cancer. He co-founded the band in the 1970s with Alex on drums and Roth on vocals.

In October 2024, Alex Van Halen shared some unheard music from Eddie in the audiobook of his memoir, “Brothers.” He mentioned that the drums, guitar, and bass were already recorded, with Wolfgang handling the bass parts. Alex also expressed interest in having Paul Rodgers sing on the tracks, but noted that Rodgers is no longer able to do it.

Hagar was the lead vocalist from 1985 to 1996 after Roth left the band, and he returned for a brief period in 2004. Alex’s memoir stops at 1984 and doesn’t cover the years after Roth’s departure. “For me, the spirit of the band ended in 1984,” he said.

Hagar understands there may be issues between him and Alex, but he’s ready to jump at the chance to collaborate. “If I got the call, I would drop just about everything, except for my live shows, to do the right thing for that,” he stated.
