Saturday Night Live Announces First Musical Guests For 50th Season

Saturday Night Live has announced its first round of musical guests for its upcoming, landmark 50th season. Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Jelly Roll are all among the performers, with the latter taking on the Jean Smart-hosted season premiere on NBC on September 28. Roan will take on the pre-election episode on November 2, alongside host John Mulaney, and Eilish will perform on October 19 in support of host Michael Keaton.

On October 5, Coldplay will be musical guest beside host Nate Bargatze. Stevie Nicks will join Ariana Grande, taking on hosting duties for the second time, on October 12.

Jelly Roll recently had a major televised performance on Sunday, September 15 when he took on the role of the in memoriam crooner at the 76th annual Primetime Emmys, performing his track “I Am Not Okay.” The performer originally debuted the song on The Voice in early June, and the track made it to number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100. In July, he was featured on Eminem’s track “Somebody Save Me” from the rapper’s 12th album The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). The song charted within the top 40.

Eilish released her third album, Hit Me Hard And Soft, in May. The album spawned two top ten hits, “Lunch” and “Birds Of A Feather.” Eilish performed the latter at the closing ceremonies of the Summer Olympic Games. She also collaborated with Charli xcx on the remix to her album Brat. That track made to number 12 on the Hot 100.

Roan, meanwhile, has been having a particularly ascendant summer, drawing huge crowds at festivals including Coachella, Gov Ball, and Lollapalooza. Her song “Good Luck, Babe!” has spent much of the summer in Billboard’s top ten. Roan performed at last week’s MTV Video Music Awards clad in medieval armor before going on to win Best New Artist later in the ceremony. She dedicated her award “to queer and trans people that fuel pop, to the gays who dedicate my songs to someone they love or hate.”
