When Frank Sinatra Jr. passed away, Seth MacFarlane was entrusted by the Sinatra family with preserving Frank Sinatra’s priceless physical arrangements, owing to his deep appreciation for the Great American Songbook.
Now, a new album featuring twelve, never-before-heard Frank Sinatra arrangements have been brought to life by Seth MacFarlane and a 70-piece orchestra comprised of all-star players from Los Angeles and London at the Skywalker Sound Studios in Marin County, CA.
The album, titled Lush Life: The Lost Sinatra Arrangements, includes arrangements by Sinatra’s legendary collaborators—Nelson Riddle, Billy May, and Don Costa—including a unique conceptual Nelson Riddle arrangement of “Lush Life” written for Frank Sintra, which they attempted to record but never completed.
Lush Life: The Lost Sinatra Arrangements, out on June 6, features never recorded arrangements written for classic Sinatra albums such as Come Fly With Me and Only the Lonely. The Frank Sinatra Estate has kept the singer’s celebrated discography at the center of popular culture. Back in October, an official music video for “If I Should Lose You” was released. The footage was taken from the 1984 film Portrait of a Lady, which captured the recording of Ol’ Blue Eyes’ final solo studio album, L.A. Is My Lady, alongside Quincy Jones and Orchestra.
Capitol Records UMe presented new editions of L.A. Is My Lady in honor of the record’s 40th anniversary. The vinyl editions are reproductions of the 1984 LP and feature the original 11-song tracklist. The deluxe CD and digital versions feature six bonus tracks, three of which were previously unreleased.
Those editions include the original liner notes by record executive Stan Cornyn with new notes by bestselling Sinatra writer Charles Pignone that feature recollections from the sessions’ main participants. The version of “Mack the Knife” restores Sinatra’s vocals from the original 1984 session, heard for the first time since the album’s original release. These mixes were created by longtime Sinatra engineer Larry Walsh.
