Critics and fans have different opinions about Sleep Token in the U.K. The band’s breakout album, *Even in Arcadia*, has been certified Gold by the British Phonographic Industry, meaning it has sold over 100,000 units. The album debuted at #1 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart after its release in May, showing that many fans are enjoying their music.
However, not everyone is a fan. Ben Beaumont-Thomas, music editor at The Guardian, criticized *Even in Arcadia* on the Today in Focus podcast, calling it one of the worst music releases of 2025. He described it as “profoundly turgid” and pointed out some of the lyrics, like “I’ve got eyelids heavy enough to break diamonds” from the song “Look to Windward” and “Are you the guardian angel hacking into my brain cells?” from “Past Self.” He compared the band’s sound to Maroon 5 but with a twist, saying it’s “fascinatingly terrible music.”
Sleep Token has faced similar mixed reviews in the U.S. *Even in Arcadia* also debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, but Pitchfork gave it a harsh review, comparing it to “Benson Boone with a Spirit Halloween gift card.” Despite the criticism, the single “Caramel” from the album was praised by New York Times critic Jon Caramanica as one of the best songs of 2025.
It’s clear that Sleep Token is making waves, whether you love them or not!
