Sophie Ellis-Bextor has shared a new single. The disco-pop anthem “Freedom of the Night” is the British icon’s first solo music since 2023 and follows the massive resurgence of her 2001 hit “Murder on the Dancefloor.” “Freedom of the Night” is out now via Casablanca Records.

“I have always been someone that needs music to help me recalibrate, and ‘Freedom of the Night’ is all about that feeling. Music as a form of release and a little bit of hedonism,” Ellis-Bextor said in a statement. “I’ve always needed that energy in my life, and I know I’m not alone. As the song says, sometimes you need to give in to what you want.”

After soundtracking an iconic scene in Emerald Fennell’s film Saltburn, “Murder on the Dancefloor” experienced a gigantic revival. It gained Platinum Certification in the US and 2x BRIT Platinum in the UK, climbed to #2 on the Official UK Singles Chart, #51 on the Billboard Hot 100, #10 on Billboard Global 200 Chart, Top 5 on Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart, and #1 on the Spotify Viral 100 Chart, and amassed over 10.9 billion global streams.

In July, Ellis-Bextor teamed up with Felix Jaehn for the infectious single “Ready For Your Love.” In 2023, Ellis-Bextor released her 8th studio album, HANA. The album charted at #8 on the UK albums chart, becoming her 5th Top 10 record. It was the third in a trilogy of records made with long-time collaborator and friend Ed Harcourt following 2016’s Familia and 2014’s Wanderlust.

After a series of sold-out headline shows across Europe and North America, Ellis-Bextor will return to the U.S. for three shows in Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Atlanta in November. She will then support Take That in Australia in November and The Human League’s UK tour in December.
